Rampage was first born in 1988 as Lewsey Carnival Club. A few dedicated people wanted to take their passion for carnival one step further, by forming an organized band of players, who could perform all year round. The original members all lived or worked in Lewsey Farm, most of whom are still involved. Every year the club attracts new members, many from outside the area, bringing their own ideas and skills to enhance the club. In 1997 the club changed its name to 'RAMPAGE' - a name which expresses energy and vitality. When people think of the word Rampage, it conjures up images of a herd of elephants, running freely without a care in the world. Rampage has taken part in the Luton International Carnival over the past 12 years. It is the largest 1-day carnival in the UK. It has won the Best Band on the Road award several years in a row and constantly reaching new heights, is now recognized as the numero uno touring band in the UK. The Club provides a family activity where each member can satisfy an individual need or talent in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Touring enables members to travel and experience other environments and communities. Also their appearances raise thousands of pounds for charities as they collect alongside the club. Both children and adults within Rampage gain confidence, discipline, learn new skills and discover new talents as they are encouraged to build costumes using a variety of materials and equipment. There are no criteria that an individual wanting to join Rampage has to meet – as long as they are interested in carnival and what it means: a festive period with processions, music and dancing in the street. |
